Join us online via Zoom to hear Gerald bring us up to date on improvements in composite laminate analysis.
First, Gerald will review at a high level the currently widely used classical and first order shear deformable laminated plate analysis, based on plate theory. These analyses do not include interlaminar stresses in a robust way.
Closed form analysis, not based on plate theory, will be presented for both flat plates and cylindrically curved shells.
Gerald will draw on his AIAA SCITECH 2021 paper (with Doug Graesser) “Closed Form Analysis of Singly Curved Laminates” and AIAA SCITECH 2023 paper (with Doug Graesser and Michael Graesser) “Closed Form 3D Analysis of Flat Laminates” as the basis of these enhanced analyses.
These enhanced analyses will be more accurate than those based on plate or shell formulations, especially for interlaminar stresses and strains that can be important for composite laminate failure predictions.
