AI/ML for Engineering: A Boeing/UW Education Collaboration | Morning Keynote| 8:00 am

Boeing and the University of Washington have been collaborating on cutting edge engineering technology for over a century. Over the last decade they have partnered on physics-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).  Michelle Carey, Boeing’s Director for the University of Washington relationship, will give an overview of the education and research collaborations over the last decade and the vision for the next decade to advance industry knowledge and application of AL & ML.

Michelle Carey is Boeing’s executive on-site director for University of Washington at all campuses. In this role, she partners with Boeing leaders on company strategies aligned with UW, including research, education, recruitment, diversity, and giving. Michelle also serves on the UW College of Engineering Advisory Board, UW Tacoma Science, Engineering and Technology Advisory Board and UW Tacoma Milgard School of Business Advisory Board.

In addition to her UW role, Michelle supports special projects for 777 Chief Program Engineer and Senior Director for Safety, Certification and Quality Integration supporting strategic management of risks, issues, and opportunities. During her Boeing career, Michelle has held a variety of roles of increasing responsibility, including 777 deputy Chief Project Engineer, acting chief engineer in BCA Structures, leader of BCA Design Practices, leader of enterprise Mechanical & Structural Engineering Design Practices, and various other leadership roles.

Throughout her career, Michelle has been champion of diversity, equity and inclusion. Starting as the UW President for Society of Women engineers and continuing throughout her Boeing career. Most notable is she was a founding leader of the Women in Structures Engineering (WiSE) council and led the strategy and implementation of the Technical Development program.
